Dr. Michael Acurio was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1960 but at the tender age of four he and his family had decamped to Shreveport, Louisiana.It would be Shreveport that became the hometown of Acurio, where he graduated from Southwood High School in 1978.Acurio was active in his high school, acting as the school’s Mascot, participating in Key Club and becoming a delegate to Louisiana Boys State in 1977.Acurio continued to be part of the daily life of Shreveport after graduation, working in his father’s business, Actron Electronics, until 1987.Even as Acurio enrolled at Louisiana Tech and worked toward his undergraduate degree, achieving Magna cum Laude status in 1982, he continued to work for Actron producing television tubes.
After Dr. Michael Acurio completed his undergraduate education at Louisiana Tech in 1982, he enrolled in the Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport, where he studied through 1986.Acurio followed his medical school graduation with a successful internship at LSUMC and a later residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.Dr. Michael Acurio entered his private practice as an Orthopedic Surgeon in 1991, receiving his Board Certification in 1994 and achieving recertification in 2004 and 2014.
